Red chili, belonging to the plant genus Capsicum, is among the most heavily consumed spices throughout the world. The name, which is spelled chili, chile, or chilli, comes from Nahuatl chīlli via the Spanish word chile. Red chili has been used as an alternative medicine for the treatment of inflammation, diabetes, low back pain and also in homeopathy medicine to treat acute tonsillitis. Moreover, capsicum plaster, which contains powdered capsicum and capsicum tincture, has been used in Korean hand acupuncture to reduce postoperative nausea, vomiting and sore throat.
